Student Employment in the BU Libraries
Students provide essential assistance in all departments of the Libraries. Recognizing the value of student employees, the Libraries provide competitive wages and opportunities for annual increases based on job performance. Returning student workers should contact their former supervisor to make arrangements for returning to work.

If you are not hired in the department of your choice, you will automatically be considered for employment in other Library departments. Note: Students should be aware that if their Work Study funding runs out, it may be possible to work additional hours, but it is the responsibility of the student to find out whether their Work Study allocation for future semesters might be affected.

Annex Student Assistant (undergraduate position)

Duties:
- Perform stack maintenance duties: shelves and shifts books and journals
- Dusts and resets shelves
- Unpacks and shelves boxed books
- Barcodes bound journals
Skills: Attention to detail. Bending, stretching, squatting, walking up and down a multi-step double hand rail ladder, lifting and carrying loads up to 30 lbs, and pushing loaded book trucks are required to accomplish daily routines.
Hours: Weekday hours: Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Library Annex is located in Broome Corporate Park, Conklin, NY. It is approximately 10 miles from the BU campus and a student assistant would need to have their own personal transportation.
Circulation Assistant (undergraduate position)
Duties:
- Circulates library material: check in/out books and reserve material
- Answer basic informational questions and assist library users with course reserve or online catalog, InfoLINK
- Service photocopiers
- Count the number of library users
Skills: Good communication skills and enjoy working with the public, familiar with computers and the online catalog, InfoLINK, must be prompt and dependable
Hours: 10 hours per week, Sunday 11am - 9pm
Circulation Assistant – 2 a.m. to 6 a.m . (undergraduate position)

Duties:
- Answer basic informational questions
- Check Binghamton University ID cards for admittance to Bartle Library
- May be asked to service photocopiers
Hours: 6-9 hours per week, Sunday - Thursday, 2 a.m. – 6 a.m.

- Collect/clean up scattered books
- Shelve books in Bartle Library and Fine Arts collection
- Shelve journals
- Keeping shelves neat and orderly
- Report any building problems
- Clean and dust computer monitors, photocopiers and microfilm equipment
- Tour library and straighten furniture
Skills: Must be detail oriented, accurate and able to work independently. Must be able to bend, stretch, lift and push loaded book trucks.
