LibX
is a Firefox extension that allows direct access to the Libraries' resources.
Toolbar: Search infoLINK or metaLINK directly from the LibX toolbar, without having to leave the page you are already using. The toolbar also provides shortcuts to the Libraries' home page and to infoLINK.
Right-click context menu: Search infoLINK or Google Scholar using the right-click context menu.
Support for off-campus access: You may reload a page to make it appear as though you are coming from an on-campus computer. This feature gives you off-campus access to resources subscribed to the Libraries if you are affiliated with Binghamton University as a student, faculty member, or staff member. (You will need to log in as you normally do when off-campus; see our technical help for more information.)
Support for Google Scholar: LibX uses Google Scholar to search for articles and directs the user to the electronic copy subscribed to by the Libraries. Select a citation, then drag-and-drop it onto the Scholar button on the toolbar. You can use this feature even from inside a PDF file, which makes retrieving papers referenced in a PDF file a snap. If you are off campus, you will first need to set Google Scholar preferences for "Library Links" to include Get It @ BU.Google Scholar preferences
Support
for embedded cues: LibX places cues in
web pages you visit if the Libraries has resources related to that
page. Whenever you see the cue, click on the link to see what the Libraries
have to offer. For instance, book pages at Amazon or Barnes & Noble
will contain cues that link to the book's entry in infoLINK. Cues are displayed
at Google, Yahoo! Search, the NY Times Book Review, and other pages.
Support for xISBN: A book title can have different ISBNs for the paperback, the hardcover, even for different editions. LibX supports OCLC's xISBN service: you can find a book, given an ISBN, even if the Libraries hold this book under a different ISBN.
Support for COinS: LibX supports COinS, which can turn certain hidden HTML tags into actionable Get It @ BU links. More information on COinS.
