Geospatial and Geostatistical Data
CUGIR (Cornell University Geospatial
Information Repository)
Repository of geospatial data and metadata for New York State, with
special emphasis on those natural features relevant to agriculture,
ecology, natural resources, and human-environment interactions.
Subjects such as landforms and topography, soils, hydrology,
environmental hazards, agricultural activities, wildlife and natural
resource management are appropriate for inclusion in CUGIR. All data
files are cataloged in accordance with FGDC standards and made
available in widely used geospatial data formats.
New York State GIS Data
Sharing Cooperative
Statewide spacial data sharing cooperative that makes NYS spacial
data sets available to members at no charge. Membership includes
particpating state agencies and is open to all county and local
governments and not-for-profit organizations. See Participating
Agencies, Contacts, and Inventories for data availability.
Digital Chart of the World
Download the boundaries and layers of different countries, in

Map Layers Warehouse
Map layers used in the National
Atlas of the United States. Most of the layers were compiled at
a scale of 1:2,000,000 and cover the full geographic extent of the
U.S., although some cover the conterminous U.S. only. Some map layer
include Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Mapping Applications
American
FactFinder Reference Maps (U.S. Census Bureau)
Create a map showing the boundaries of a Census geographic area or areas (such
as a congressional district, census tract, and blocks for Census 2000), as well
as features (for example, roads or waterways) and other information.
American
FactFinder Thematic Maps (U.S. Census Bureau)
Create a map that graphically depicts statistical data, such as population,
median income, or industry data. Maps may be created based on 1990 and 2000
Census of Population and Housing, 1997 Economic Census, and the American Community
Survey.
FAQs about Census Bureau Geography, Maps and Mapping Engines
Interactive Spatial
Data Browser
Select state(s) and variables to create an online map derived from USGS Digital
Line Graph Data. Variables include federal lands by type, most populated places,
highways, rivers, railroads, historic sites, battlefields, and county lines.
National
Atlas of the United States - Interactive Maps
Create high-quality, small-scale maps using layers based on authoritative national
geospatial and geostatistical data sets. Examples of layers include soils, county
boundaries, volcanoes, watersheds, crime patterns, population distribution,
and incidence of disease. Maps include links to related sites on the Internet
for more up-to-date, real-time, and regional data information. Also includes
dynamic multimedia maps designed to animate and illustrate our changing Nation
(requires Shockwave plugin)
Statewide Digital
Orthophotography
Rapid access to the statewide digital orthophotography data set. Orthophotography
has the appearance of an aerial photograph but is processed to allow it to be
accurately used in mapping applications. Within this application, general maps
can be generated as well as detailed maps of individual neighborhoods using
digital orthophotography of locations throughout New York State. Users have
the option of saving the resulting maps as a graphic for use in other applications,
or to download files for use in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The project
features additional GIS capabilities allowing users to retrieve new information
and generate analytical maps.
TIGER Map Service
Generate detailed maps with geographic information from 1998 TIGER/Line data
and 1990 Decennial Census data. FAQ

MABLE/Geocorr Geographic
Correspondence Engine
Generate files and/or reports showing relationships between a wide
variety of geographic coverages for the United States. For example,
create a report/file showing all census tracts within a congressional
district. Coverages available for correlation include all geographic
units reported in the 1990 census Summary Tape Files, and several
special "extension coverages", including congressional
districts for the 103rd Congress, PUMAs used in the 1990 Public Use
Microdata Samples (PUMS), and ZIP codes (1991). See ZIP
Code Resources Page for additional information and resources.
