IUCN Red List
The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources is an international organization) Red List of Threatened Species provides taxonomic, conservation status and distribution information on taxa that have been globally evaluated using the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria. This system is designed to determine the relative risk of extinction, and the main purpose of the IUCN Red List is to catalogue and highlight those taxa that are facing a higher risk of global extinction

Society for Conservation Biology
An international professional organization dedicated to promoting the scientific study of the phenomena that affect the maintenance, loss, and restoration of biological diversity.

United Nations Environmental Programme - World Conservation Monitoring Centre
An international program for the synthesis, analysis and dissemination of global biodiversity knowledge, providing authoritative, strategic and timely information for conventions, countries, organizations and companies to use in the development and implementation of their policies and decisions. They report on such topics as Parks and Protected Areas, Global Biodiversity Atlases, Species Information, Critical Ecosystems, International Policy, and Emergency Response. They also maintain the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (aka CITES).

US Fish & Wildlife Service
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's mission is to work with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefits of the American people. Of note, is their Endangered and Threatened Species web page.

US Forest Service
The Forest Service is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Their mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the Nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations.

Department of Energy - Life and Medical Sciences
Describes current research projects focused on life and medical sciences as well as other environmental research projects under the Department of Energy.

United Nations Human Development Reports
The Human Development Report is an independent report. It is commissioned by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and they contain four composite indices for human development — the Human Development Index, the Gender-related Development Index, the Gender Empowerment Measure, and the Human Poverty Index. Each Report also focuses on a highly topical theme in the current development debate, providing path-breaking analysis and policy recommendations.

World Health Organization
The World Health Organization (WHO) is the United Nations specialized agency for health. WHO's objective, as set out in its Constitution, is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. Health is defined in WHO's Constitution as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The National Council for Science and the Environment currently posts Congressional Research Service Reports on environmental and related topics.The Congressional Research Service (CRS), part of the Library of Congress, prepares its reports for the U.S. Congress.

Stateline.org - Environment (can browse by state)
Stateline.org is an independent element of the Pew Research Center and is based in Washington, DC. They aim to provide timely tips and research material on state policy innovations and trends, and report on such important state-level issues such as healthcare, tax and budget policy, the environment, welfare reform.

United Nations Environment Programme
The UNEP mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations. They provide publications and contacts for Governments, Scientists, Civil Society, Business People, and Children and Youths. You can also browse by thematic areas from their About UNEP webpage for such topics as biodiversity, climate change, environmental assessment, governance & law, sustainable consumption, etc.

USDA
The United States Department of Agriculture administers programs and services concerned with farmers and consumers. These include grading and inspection of meat and other products, and conducting research programs in animal and plant production and human nutrition. You can browse for information by audience (such as agribusiness, conservationists, educators & students, researchers) or by topic (such as agriculture, laws & regulations, rural & community development).

World Bank Group
An international organization made up of five closely associated institutions: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), International Development Association (IDA), International Finance Corporation (IFC), Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). The World Bank provides development assistance.
