Country Background Information

Business Source Premier B.U. Only
Provides full-text articles for over 1000 general and academic business titles. For country information, click on Country Reports, then type your country name in the browse box. The Country Review and Country Competitiveness documents are best for country overviews.

BuyUSA.gov
A U.S. government site that provides market research and country information. Information varies greatly by country.

China Data Online B.U. Only
Contains demographic and economic statistical information on China, including data by city, county, and province. This database requires a password which can be obtained at the Bartle Library Reference Desk.

EIU.com B.U. Only
Produced by the Economist Intelligence Unit, this website provides up-to-date information on countries' political and economic trends and backgrounds. The Country Commerce section reports on operating conditions and business regulations in 55 countries. This is a trial database that will be up for this semester only.

Export.gov
This site is the U.S. government's export portal. It provides links to industry and market research reports, as well as trade leads.

globalEDGE
Excellent source of country and industry information.

Stat-USA B.U. Only
The Globus & NTDB section of the database contains international marketing data and country background information. Most useful reports can be found by using files listed under the heading Market and Country Research.
Country Data: Country Background Notes or Country Commercial Guides
Market Research Data: (Somewhat out of date) Industry Sector Analysis Reports or International Marketing Insight Reports.

World Development Indicators on CD-ROM
Contains over 550 time-series indicators for 208 countries and 18 country groups, covering 1960 to 2004.. The CD-ROM is kept on the Census workstation in the Online and Data Services room in the Government Documents room which is off of the Bartle Library Reference area. Focused more on basic country information, rather than business aspects.

Trade Data

Trade Data Online
Provides customized reports for trade of both the United States and Canada with other countries.

USA Trade Online B.U. Only
U.S. export and import information on over 18,000 commodities worldwide. Users must access this database from a PC within Bartle Library. This database requires a password which can be obtained from the Information Commons desk in Bartle Library.

Business and Company Resource Center B.U. Only
 This articles in this database are primarily from trade magazines, with some international coverage. It also has excellent overviews of companies and industries.

Factiva BU Only
Factiva contains full-text newspaper and business newswire articles, as well as information on companies and financial data. To narrow your search to specific countries or products, select Industries and/or Regions. There is full-text coverage of non-English languages newspapers and newswires. Use the Language or the News Pages button to search for articles in another language. Factiva also contains the full-text of the Wall St. Journal. Factiva Tutorial

Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe B.U. Only
This database covers thousands of newspapers, trade magazines, and newswires, as well as other specialized resources.
Use the General search box to find articles on countries and industries.

Both of the above titles provide statistics on the demographics, marketing data, and economics of the countries of the world.
