Library Resources

Note: For a complete listing of Management databases, go to the Library homepage and click on metaLINK. Then click on Management and Business.

Finding Journals

If You Know the Name of the Journal or Newspaper Go to the Library homepage and click on metaLINK. Once in metaLINK, click on the Find e-Journal link at the top of the page. Type the name of your journal in the box. This will tell you what database has the full-text of your journal, and what years are covered in the database. Generally, it is easier to find articles in Business Source Premier or Academic Search Premier, rather than Lexis or Factiva, so use those databases if possible.

If You Are Looking for Articles by Topic try the following:

Business Source Premier B.U. Only
Provides full-text articles for over 1000 general and academic business titles. In addition to articles, it contains industry and company profiles, market research, and country reports.

Business & Company Resource Center B.U. Only
This database contains information on companies and industries, as well as articles (primarily from trade magazines) and journals
Company Information: Click on the Company button, and type a company name in the box. Companies are listed by sales. Once you have selected and displayed your company, use the buttons at the top of the screen to display company histories, investment reports, financials, lawsuits, products, industry overview, etc.
Magazine and Journal Articles: Click the Articles button, then type your search in the box. To broaden your search, change the pulldown from Subject to Keyword.

Factiva BU Only
Factiva contains full-text newspaper and business newswire articles, as well as information on companies and financial data. To find articles about companies, go to Company in the blue box and then type your company name. For company information, click on Companies/Markets at the top of the page. Then click on Company, Quotes, or Charting. Doesn't have full 10K reports, but does contain balance sheet information.

Lexis Nexis Academic Universe BU Only
This database covers thousands of newspapers, trade magazines, and newswires, as well as other specialized resources.
Articles: Click on Business, then select either Business News or Industry & Market. Business articles can also be found under the general News heading. Does not have the full-text of the Wall St. Journal
Financial Information: Click on Business, then click on SEC Filings & Reports. Search the 10K reports. However, Thomson Research, listed below, is a better database for financial information.
Articles and General Business News: Click on Business, then click on Business News. This is a good place to look for listings of mergers and acquisitions and for announcements of such topics as "purchased in process research and development".
Accounting Articles: Click on Business and then Accounting.

If We Don't Own the Journal in Online or Paper

If the Libraries simply don't own a journal, it can be obtained via InterLibrary Loan (ILLiad). This is a free service, but it requires registration. To use ILL, go to the Libraries' homepage, use the pulldown menu for the Borrowing button and select Interlibrary Loan ILLiad. It can take anywhere from 3-4 days to 2-3 weeks to obtain articles via ILLiad, so keep that in mind.

Finding Financial & SEC Data

As mentioned above, some financial information and SEC filings can be found in Factiva and Lexis. However, the databases listed below should be your first choice for SEC filings.

Edgar is the government website for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In addition to corporate filings, it also has Press Releases and Comment Letters. AAER releases can be found by clicking on Divisions, then Enforcement, then Selected Accounting and Auditing Enforcement Releases. A lot of information is buried on the site, so you may need to use the Site Map or Search buttons.

Thomson Research BU Only
Covers 10Ks, 10Qs, annual reports, proxies, etc. for U.S. companies and international companies on U.S. stock exchanges. Has nice, one page overviews under Company Tearsheet, Financial Tearsheet, Company Brief, and Company Profile. The advantage of this database over LEXIS is that specific information can be pulled out without viewing the entire 10K. Within the 10K, the Business and Management Discussion sections are particularly useful. To search, type a company name or ticker in the box. Note that reports for international companies are called 20F rather than 10K.
