Japanese Collection Overview

History

The Japanese Collection at the Binghamton University Libraries supports the teaching and research of Japan in the area of Japanese history, literature, language, and cultures. The collecting of materials in original Japanese language began in August 2002 when generous funding from the Freeman Foundation enabled the hiring of a full-time Asian studies librarian – Bibliographer / Cataloger. With the support from the Libraries, the Asian and Asian American Studies Program, and donations from various institutions and individuals, the collection now is approaching 2,000 volumes, most of which are key reference works and literary primary sources.

For more detailed information on materials in the Collection, please refer to the Reference Works .
