The Preservation Unit of the University Libraries functions as an integral part of Collection Development and works closely with other departments to maintain the collections in usable condition for the long term. The Libraries' Preservation Program involves both preventive and corrective measures, including:

- Environmental monitoring

- Book repair
- Brittle/damaged book program
- Rebinding
- Protective enclosures
- Document repair and encapsulation
- Reformatting
Preservation staff are also available, both to the campus community, and to residents of the Binghamton area, for consultation and referrals. For more information, call the Preservation Unit at 777-2915 or contact the Head of Preservation, Jean L. Root Green, at 777-3912 or jgreen@binghamton.edu.
