Finding articles

I need to find an article about...

Ask for help at the Research and Reference Help Desk, or browse our Subject Guides to help you get started.

You find journal articles by searching in a database, which contains articles (or the citations and abstracts of articles) from a variety of journals. These databases are often arranged around a subject, such as Psychology or Social Work.

I was told I need to use "journals" or a "peer-reviewed article." What is that?

It's a publication with scholarly articles written by experts, as compared to a magazine, which is written for the general public. For more information, see What is a Scholarly Journal?

What is Get it@BU?

Get it @ BU is a service that allows you to determine if any article is available on-line through the Libraries, or if it is available in the Libraries in paper form. For more information, watch the short Get it@ BU tutorial.

What if I am looking for a specific title?

Do a search for the Journal Title, and not the article title.

What do I do if I can't find the article I want?

If we do not own the journal article you want, then request it through Inter-Library Loan and the Libraries will get it for you.

Can I check out a journal that is in the Libraries?

Yes, if they are in they are bound or located in the Annex. See the Circulation Services page for details.
