Student Quota Printing
See the Information Commons page on quota printing.
Student quota printing is available in the Information Commons in Bartle and Science Libraries. If your printing quota is exhausted, additional pages may be printed using your BUC$ account. See BUC$ Account below for more information.
Community Printing
Limited printing is available to guests who use the Libraries' Guest Computers. A BUC$ card must be purchased from the BUC$ machines available in Bartle and Science Libraries. See BUC$ Account below for more information. Please visit Services for Community Patrons for information about borrowing privileges and guest computer access.
Plotter
The Libraries offer large-format printing for academic purposes using a HP T1200 plotter. The plotter can print in color or black and white, and on a roll of paper that is 42 inches by 100 feet. The plotter is located in the Science Library and unlike most printers in the library which are self serve, the plotter is only available with the assistance of library staff. Read more about the Science Library Plotter here.
BUC$ Account
BU students, faculty and staff can add funds to their BUC$ account at the BUC$ machine located on the first floor of the Bartle and Science Libraries. You may need to activate your BUC$ account – see BUC$ FAQ on how to sign up for an account on your BU ID card.
Library visitors can purchase a BUC$ card for $1 from the BUC$ machines. Additional funds must be added to the card using cash. Please note:
Information on photocopying and the Libraries' microformat readers/scanners is available here.
The Libraries have a variety of scanners available at our different locations for use by patrons.
BARTLE LIBRARY
Walk-up KIC Scanner
A state-of-the-art fast document scanning kiosk, known as the Knowledge Imaging Center or KIC, is located in the reference area on Bartle Library’s first floor. The environmentally friendly KIC scanner features intuitive touch screen controls for easy use. Documents can be saved to a USB flash drive in a multiple of formats, including searchable PDF, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and MP3 audio files or sent to your email account.
The KIC walk-up scanner uses a V-cradle scanning bed so documents remain completely untouched by the scanner’s image capturing lens. The V-cradle helps to preserve the book’s binding and is excellent for older fragile books. The scanner is capable of scans up to 17 X 24 inches or as small as a postage stamp. The KIC scanner scans in vibrant color or black & white. The KIC scanner kiosk is wheelchair accessible and is a UDSA compliant digitization system.
If you need assistance with the KIC scanner, please visit the Bartle Circulation Desk or the Research Help Desk in the Information Commons.
Flat-bed Scanners
The Bartle Library Information Commons also has letter-size page scanning and large format scanning able to accommodate 11"x17" materials.
If you need assistance with the flat-bed scanners, please visit the Information Technology Help Desk in the Bartle Library Information Commons.
SCIENCE LIBRARY
The Science Library has two flat-bed letter-size page scanners (one on a PC workstation and one on a MAC workstation). If you need assistance with the flat-bed scanners, please visit the Information Services Desk.
USE OF SCANNERS
As a courtesy, the Libraries request that patrons limit scanning time to 10 minutes on the walk-up KIC Scanner, if other patrons are waiting to use the scanner. For the flat-bed scanners, we ask that you limit your time on the workstation to 30 minutes.
Although these workstations are available for general computing, priority use of them shall be given to those needing to scan materials for academic needs. Those using the workstations for other purposes may be asked to yield the computer to those needing to scan. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. If you need assistance or have questions about this policy, please contact staff at the nearest service desk. See our policy.
