The Department of Anthropology, Smithsonian Institution seeks a contract archivist to process the Records of the Handbook of North American Indians (1973-2008), located in the National Museum of Natural History, Washington, DC. The Handbook of North American Indians is a multi-volume encyclopedia summarizing current scholarly knowledge about the prehistory, history, and cultures of the aboriginal peoples of North American who have lived north of the urban civilizations of central Mexico. Target date for commencement of work will be the end of May and processing and related work will not exceed nine (9) months from the start date. Prospective contractors should have an ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS degree or be in the final stage of completing their degree. Contractors must be able to safely lift boxes weighing over 40 pounds, and to climb ladders. The work will be physically demanding.
