05/07/08 - More than 20 SALALMistas (librarians and book dealers) made their presence known at the Buenos Aires Book Fair during the professional days as the Fair prepared to received more than one million avid readers. SALALAMistas (Anne Barnhart, Paloma Celis Carbajal, Carlos Delgado, Patricia Figueroa and Adan Griego) also participated, with gran "exito" at Argentina's 40a Reunión Nacional de Bibliotecarios. (report from Adan Griego) 05/07/08 - WOLA-Duke Book Award - Deadline for Nominations Extended To May 16. Given jointly by the Washington Office on Latin America and Duke University, the award will go to the best current, non-fiction book published in English on human rights, democracy and social justice in contemporary Latin America. 05/02/08 - SALALM Election Results Announced: The Nominations Committee (Craig Schroer, Paul Losch, and Virginia Garcia) is pleased to announce the results of this year's elections. Fernando Acosta-Rodríguez is SALALM's new President-Elect. Martha E. Mantilla and Roberto Delgadillo have been elected to a three year term as Members-at-Large. (cross-posted from LALA-L) 03/11/08 - "At its meeting on February 8, 2008, the Society of American Archivists (SAA) Council approved the creation of the Latin American and Caribbean Cultural Heritage Archives (LACCHA) Roundtable. The new LACCHA Roundtable will serve as a forum for discussing and advising on issues related to the management and preservation of archival materials originating from the Latin American and Caribbean area and housed in U.S. repositories and also those created by Diaspora groups who come from these regions and are living in the United States." (cross-posted from LALA-L) 02/15/08 - Greenleaf Library Research Fellowships Available - Permanent residents of Latin America or the Caribbean are encourage to apply for a fellowship to conduct research at Tulane's Latin American Library. Details are available in English, em português, and en español. 02/12/08 - Digital Library of the Caribbean Seeks New Board Members - dLOC is accepting applications for four new dLOC Advisory Board members. During the past two years, the Advisory Board provided feedback and support for the project and the collection of resources has grown to over 2,500 titles. This new 2008-2009 Advisory Board will play a vital role in the continued success and sustainability of dLOC. The Board will provide guidance to the dLOC Executive Committee and the co-Directors by reviewing proposals for collections, by nominating collections for inclusion, and by reviewing standards developed by the sub-committees. The members of the Board should be skilled in technical issues, in relevant academic disciplines, and/or in curriculum development. Members should be active members of CSA and be willing to attend an annual dLOC meeting at CSA. No travel money is available, but Advisory Board Members will receive an annual honorarium of $100. Members will serve a two-year term from March 2008 through December 2009 and can be reappointed.
