Binghamton University Libraries Ask a Librarian

But my professor said it was in the library!

It may be on Reserves.

What is Reserves?
Often, a professor places items in the library for students to use. They are made available to students for limited loan periods. This ensures all students can use the materials, and some greedy person in the class does not manage to keep all the good stuff.

Where do I go to get Reserve materials?
There are two Reserve areas. Reserve materials in the Bartle Library can be found at the Circulation Desk, and Reserve items in the Science Library can be found at their Information Services Desk.

How do I know if something is on Reserves?
You can search for items on Reserve in infoLINK by using Advanced Search and searching under "Course Number." You can also log into BlackBoard and click on the Reserves button located in the course menu.

What do I need to check out Reserve materials?
Your student ID.

My professor said that there was stuff on electronic reserves. How do I get to that?
Materials made that are placed on reserve electronically can be found on the course BlackBoard site. Materials will be placed on BlackBoard, even if the professor does not usually use BlackBoard for their class. If you don't know how to log on to BlackBoard, click here.
