New Open Access Journal for the Enviromental Sciences

Launched at the end of October 2006 as a high-impact, open-access Letters journal, Environmental Research Letters (ERL) will provide a coherent and integrated approach including research articles, perspectives, news and editorials, as well as meeting notices for the environmental science community. Completely free to read online, ERL will be funded by an article publication charge.

Open Access News

As of October 1st 2006, five major UK research funders will require open
access to the published results of all the research they fund. According to a BioMed Central press release, the Medical Research Council (MRC), Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) and National Environmental Research Council (NERC) have all introduced policies requiring deposition in an open access repository, which took effect on October 1st 2006. The policies come into effect on the anniversary of the introduction of theWellcome Trust's policy on open access, on October 1st 2005.

The Libraries now have access to Health and Wellness Resource Centre and Alternative Health Module. This database provides access to alternative medicine-focused magazines, journals, newspapers, definitions, directories, videos, & reference information on: Medicine, Nutrition, Diseases, Public Health, Pregnancy, Herbal remedies, etc. Included are links to diet, cancer, health assessment sites & government databases. Easily access 700+ videos from Healthology, Inc.'s consumer health video library.
