Library Survey for Graduate Students
The Libraries are conducting a Graduate student survey.
If you have comments about the libraries and their services, please fill out the survey. Completed surveys can be left at boxes that are located at the Science and Bartle Circulation desks, or they can be mailed to: Ya-Wen Chiu, BU 506, P.O. Box 6000, Binghamton, New York, 13902-6000. The survey runs through November 11, 2005. Ten survey takers, selected at random, will receive gift certificates from the campus bookstore.

New database backfiles available
The Science Library has expanded backfile access for two of our databases.
The Engineering Index backfile, with coverage back to 1884, has been added to our Compendex subscription.
Science Citation Index now goes back to 1983.

BIOSIS Now Available on EBSCO
Biological Abstracts (BIOSIS) is now available on the EBSCO platform. Biological Abstracts is a complete collection of bibliographic references covering life science and biomedical research literature published from more than 4,000 journals internationally. This database provides users with easy access to the latest information in virtually every life science discipline and contains nearly 7.7 million archival records from as far back as 1969, with more than 370,000 citations added each year. Entomology Journals Ranked by Impact
in-cites, the editorial component of ISI Essential Science Indicators recently released a report showing the top Entomology journals. The report was based on the "impact factor" of the journals. Read more here...

New Open Access Journals from BioMed Central

BioMed Central, the independent publishing house that provides free access to peer-reviewed biomedical research, has recently launched the following new Open Access journals:
Cough
From BioMed Central: Cough is an Open Access, peer-reviewed, online journal that will encompass the scientific and clinical aspects of both acute and chronic cough.
Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine
From BioMed Central:Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine is an Open Access, peer-reviewed, online journal that aims to promote the exchange of original knowledge and research in any area of ethnobiology and ethnomedicine. Trial Database
BU students, researchers, and staff have access to PsycBOOKS untill November 7th, 2005.
"Trial available on and off campus. PsycBOOKS is a full-text database of books and chapters from the American Psychological Association and classic books from other publishers. In 2005, the database offering includes about 750 titles, including 100 out-of-print books from 1950-2002, approximately 120 archival resources in psychology, and the exclusive electronic release of the APA/Oxford University Press Encyclopedia of Psychology with over 1,500 authored entries."

Inaugural Issue of PLoS Pathogens
The Public Library of Science (PLoS) recently launched the inaugural issue of PLoS Pathogens, an international open-access, peer-reviewed journal. The journal will publish articles about pathogens and how they interact with their host organisms.
