Protecting the Earth Exhibit

natureblog.JPGThe Libraries’ current exhibit, housed in both Bartle and Science, focuses on issues related to protecting the earth. It includes books and maps on sustainable development, issues of endangerment, visions of the land, art and the environment, environmental biology and geology by a number of recognized writers and artists. Two carvings of birds by Richard Jacyna, staff member in Geological Sciences, are featured in Bartle.

The centerpiece of the exhibit is the BU Nature Preserve and its role in environmental teaching and research. Founded in 1964, the Nature Preserve today provides access to over 500 acres of undeveloped natural areas, including wetlands, with many species of birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles. It is a beautiful spot for hiking and observing the world around us, but also performs an important role in mitigating potential flooding from Fuller Hollow Creek. The exhibit features 35 stunning photographs taken in the Nature Preserve by students David Katz and Matthew Kull. Click here to view some of the photographs from the exhibit.

On November 22, from 7 PM to 9 PM there will be an opening reception in the Bartle Library Staff Lounge. Speakers will include Professor Richard Andrus, Geological Sciences, Julian Shepherd, Biological Sciences and Dylan Horvath, Steward of the Nature Preserve.
