Summer time--Blockbuster Films

Summer is the time that the Hollywood studios typically pin their hopes on "event" films with wide commercial appeals. The rough definition of a summer blockbuster is one that makes over 100 million dollars (though if the film itself costs much more than that to make, the definition may not apply). Billy Jack 1971, is considered by many people to be the first summer blockbuster film, though Jaws 1975 is also often mentioned as well. The following are books that discuss the blockbuster phenomenon and summer movies.

The database offers access to over 250,000 (and growing) tracks of music to the campus community. While listening, you can read notes on the works being played as well as biographical information on composers or artists in Naxos's extensive database. Tracks in NML are *NOT* downloadable to any device.

The database is available 24/7 to the entire University community via the internet, thus greatly increasing the access to recorded music in the Libraries' collection of vinyl, tape and CD audio recordings.

Fritz Lang

The great Austrian director, Fritz Lang, is January's featured director of the month. Born in Vienna, he produced some of early cinema's most famous films, including the science fiction classic Metropolis, and the suspense film M. With the rise of the Nazi party, Lang left Germany in 1934 and moved to France and then the United States. Although Lang's later American films are sometimes considered inferior compared to his earlier German features, he is considered an important influence on film noir.
