Data Source for September--WRDS
The highlighted data source for September is Wharton Research Data Services, or WRDS, for short. WRDS is the interface used to access Compustat, CRSP, Global Insight, and other large economic and financial files. Use of WRDS is strictly restricted to Binghamton University faculty and students and requires registration. See the WRDS page for a complete listing of data files and directions on registration.

Data Source for August
This month's data source is USA Trade Online. This database features U.S. export and import information on more than 18,000 commodities world wide. USA Trade Online has 2- through 10- digit Harmonized System detail for commodities in the following data tables:
* Exports - current month & previous month
* Exports - cumulative year to date, current year & prior year
* Exports - annual two year, historical
* Imports - current month & previous month
* Imports - cumulative year to date, current year & prior year
* Imports - annual two year, historical
Internet version is free to users at U.S. Federal depository libraries; other users are required to pay a fee. Users must access this title from a PC within Bartle Library. The database password can be obtained from the Information Commons desk.

Data Source of the Month--Statistical Universe
Statistical Universe is July's featured data source of the month. Statistical Universe indexes publications from state and private (New York State, AAA), national (Census, Transportation), and international (UN, World Bank) publications. Some publications are available online, others are merely indexed by the database. The Libraries own a microfiche set that contains much of the material which is covered in the database. For help with Statistical Universe, ask a Reference Librarian.

Data Source for June
This month's data source is World Bank Africa Database, which is on CD-ROM. This CD-ROM contains over 1,200 indicators of macro-economic, sectoral, and social data for 53 African countries and 20 regional country groups going back to 1970. Data can be downloaded into Excel. To use this product, go to the Reference window at the Information Commons desk. The call number is HC800.A1 W677. The library owns the 2002, 2004, and 2005 editions.

Data Source for May
The Data Source for May is China Data Online. This is a statistical database covering cities, provinces, and national data for China. Due to database restrictions, China Data Online can be accessed only on a terminal located in the Libraries. To use this database, go to the Information Commons Reference desk and ask for the password. The Libraries have a partial subscription to this database, so the yearbook and census data are not available.

Data Source for April--International Financial Statistics
April's featured statistical database is International Financial Statistics, or IFS. IFS has statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance from 200+ IMF countries. It contains approximately 32,000 time series of financial and economic data.

Data Source for March
The Libraries have access to literally hundreds of different statistical resources. Datastream provides historical coverage of major securities from worldwide markets, plus increasing data coverage on emerging markets and new instruments. Includes equity, index, commodity, currency, bond, economic data, and more. Data is available in daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly formats. The coverage varies, though some data series go back 30 years. The output easily transfers into Excel. Datastream is available on the Statistical Workstation in Online and Data Services. The Online and Data Services room is inside the Government Documents room in the Bartle Reference area.
