Citation Tracking

There are now several ways to discover how many times an article or author has been cited. Web of Science has long been used by faculty and students. However, there are several new databases that also have this facility. Scopus Citation Tracker , which we have on trial through 2006, allows citation searching in the sciences and social sciences. Both Business Source Premiere and Academic Search Premiere allow easy citation searching. It is important to be aware of the journal titles covered in each of these databases to fully understand the results.

Data Source for May

The Data Source for May is China Data Online. This is a statistical database covering cities, provinces, and national data for China. Due to database restrictions, China Data Online can be accessed only on a terminal located in the Libraries. To use this database, go to the Information Commons Reference desk and ask for the password. The Libraries have a partial subscription to this database, so the yearbook and census data are not available.

New Marketing Database is the Database for May

The Libraries have subscribed to a new Marketing database, MRI Plus. It is useful for students taking classes in advertising and marketing. This database requires registration using your BU e-mail address. Mediamark Reporter, part of MRI+, provides information on demographics, lifestyles, product and brand usage and advertising media preferences. MRI+ also allows users to create magazine lists with audience and circulation rates. Data is always several years old.
