What are Physical and Electronic Reserves?
What do I need in order to use Electronic Reserves?Physical Course Reserves:
Books, journals, media, and other items (both from the library and from an instructor’s personal collection) are considered physical course reserves. These materials are available for a 2-hour, 3-hour, (for DVDs and videos only) 1-day, or 2-day loan period. Late charges accrue at $0.02 per minute for 2 and 3 hour loans and $3.00 per day for 1 and 2 day loans. There is a maximum of $50.00 per item. This material is searchable through InfoLINK, the libraries’online catalog. Physical course reserve material may be checked out with a valid BU ID at the service desks during regular library hours in the Bartle and Science Libraries.Electronic Course Reserves:
Electronic Reserves allows course materials (book chapters, articles, lecture notes, etc.) to be available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, through your instructor’s course page on Blackboard after logging in. Log in instructions and help with Blackboard are available through the Technology Training Center Blackboard Student Help page .
- A computer with an Internet browser.
- Your username and password for Blackboard
- Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. To view these files you must have a current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. You can download a free reader from the Adobe web site.
*Note: You can access materials off campus as well, in the same way. Bear in mind that some documents are very large files and will take some time to download if you are trying to access electronic reserves with a slow modem. Every effort has been made to reduce the file sizes of these documents, but some will still require your patience.
How do I find course readings on Reserves?
For physical reserves, you can search InfoLINK, and view lists of available material by going to advanced search, selecting “Course Number” under “Field to Search” and entering the course ID, ( i.e. ECON160A ).
For electronic reserves, you can access the reserve materials by logging into Blackboard and clicking on the course listed on your Blackboard homepage. You then click on “Course Reserves” and will find items arranged by author and title.
How do I print Electronic Reserve documents?
Most documents will be PDF files that will open in a separate Adobe Acrobat Reader window. You can print the document by clicking on the Print icon of the toolbar, or by going to the File menu and choosing Print, or by pressing CTRL-P. Remember to allow the entire file to download before attempting to print.
Note: Most PDF documents print more clearly than the on-screen image.
How can I get more information?
You can stop by either service desk or contact the Reserves departments directly.
