Student Employment in the BU Libraries

Unless otherwise noted, all positions are for undergraduates and require Federal Work Study funding.

Students provide essential assistance in all departments of the Libraries. Bartle Library Positions

Bartle Library Circulation Assistant (Undergraduate)

You must have Federal Work Study funding to apply for this job.

Duties:

  • Circulates library material: check in/out books, laptops, netbooks
  • Answer basic informational questions and assist library users with course reserves or the online catalog
  • Service photocopiers
  • Count the number of library users

Skills: Good communication skills and enjoy working with the public, familiar with computers and the online catalog. Must be prompt and dependable.

Hours: 6-9 hours per week. Hours vary.

Bartle Library Circulation Assistant – 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. (Undergraduate)

You must have Federal Work Study funding to apply for this job.

Duties:

  • Answer basic informational questions
  • Check Binghamton University ID cards for admittance to Bartle Library
  • Service photocopiers
  • Circulates library material: check in/out book
  • Walk around the library and count the number of library users
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills: Must be reliable and prompt; willingness to make a commitment to working these hours.

Hours: 6-9 hours per week, Sunday - Thursday, 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Stack Maintenance Assistant (Undergraduate)

You must have Federal Work Study funding to apply for this job.

Duties:

  • Collect/clean up scattered books
  • Sort and shelve books and journals in Bartle Library and Fine Arts collection
  • Shift books and journals
  • Keeping shelves neat and orderly
  • Report any building problems

Skills: Must be detail oriented, accurate, able to work independently and also work in teams. Must be able to bend, stretch, squat, lift and push loaded book trucks on carpeted surfaces.

Hours: 5-9 hours per week. Hours vary.
